You might live in the past
but your mind belonged to the future.

Your body might be in the ancient world
yet your soul flew to the modern times.

Your fate might not be fortunate
nevertheless, your name lingers.

Oh, Kartini, you were a distinguished damsel
who sacrificed your life for your own kind.
May your spirit always guides your heirs
so they may gain the essence your dream.

For her contribution, she was awarded as Indonesian national hero because of her ideas which improve Indonesian women level, on May 2, 1964.

Raden Adjeng Kartini (born in Jepara, Dutch East Indies, 21 April 1879 - died in Rembang, Dutch East Indies, 17 September 1904 at the age of 25 years) or actually more accurately called Raden Ayu Kartini [1] was a Javanese figure and Indonesian National Hero. Kartini is known as the pioneer of the revival of indigenous women.

Raden Adjeng Kartini came from the Javanese priyayi or aristocratic class. [2] She was the daughter of Raden Mas Adipati Ario Sosroningrat, a patih who was appointed regent of Jepara immediately after Kartini was born. [2] Kartini was the daughter of the first wife, but not the main wife. [2] His mother named M.A. Ngasirah, daughter of NyaiHaji Siti Aminah and Kyai Haji Madirono, a religion teacher in Telukawur, Jepara. [2] From the demand side, Kartini's lineage can be traced to Hamengkubuwana VI. The lineage of Regent Sosroningrat can even be traced back to the Majapahit Kingdom palace. [2] Since Pangeran Dangirin became the regent of Surabaya in the 18th century, Sosroningrat's ancestors were very important in Pangreh Praja. [2]

Kartini's father was originally a wedana in Mayong. Colonial regulations at that time required a regent to have a nobleman's title. Because M.A. Ngasirah idol of high nobility [3], then declared remarriage with Raden Adjeng Woerjan (Moerjam), a direct descendant of the King of Madura. [2] After the marriage, Kartini's father was appointed to be the regent in Jepara and was assigned to the biological father of R.A. Woerjan, R.A.A. Tjitrowikromo.

Kartini is the fifth child of 11 biological and step siblings. The eldest of siblings, Kartini is the eldest. His grandfather, Pangeran Ario Tjondronegoro IV, was appointed regent at the age of 25 and was known in the mid-19th century as one of the first regents to provide Western education to his children. [2] Kartini's older brother, Sosrokartono, was a clever language expert. Until the age of 12, Kartini is allowed to attend ELS (Europese Lagere School). Here, among others, Kartini studied Dutch. But after the age of 12, he had to stay at home because he could be secluded.

Because Kartini could speak Dutch, so at home she began to study on her own and wrote letters to correspondence friends who came from Holland. One of them is Rosa Abendanon who supports her a lot. From European books, newspapers and magazines, Kartini was interested in the progress of European women's thinking. His desire arose to promote indigenous women, because he saw that indigenous women were at a low social status.

Kartini read a lot about the Semarang newspaper De Locomotief, which was raised by Peter Brooshooft. She also received aaleestrommel (a magazine package that is distributed by bookstores to subscribers). Among them are cultural and scientific magazines which are quite heavy, as well as the Dutch women's magazine De Hollandsche Lelie. Kartini then sent her writings several times and was published in De Hollandsche Lelie. From her letters, Kartini reads everything attentively, while making notes. Sometimes Kartini mentions an essay or quotes several sentences. Her concern is not only about the emancipation of women, but also on general social issues. Kartini saw women's struggle to gain freedom, autonomy and legal equality as part of a broader movement. Among the books that Kartini read before she was 20 are the titles Max Havelaar and Letters of Love from Multatuli, which she read twice in November1901. Then De Stille Kraacht (Magical Power) by Louis Coperus. Then came Van Eeden's high-quality work, the mediocre Augusta de Witt, the feminist novel by Mrs Goekoop de-Jong Van Beek and an anti-war novel by Berta Von Suttner, Die Waffen Nieder (Put the Arms). All speak Dutch.

By her parents, Kartini was matched with the regent of Rembang, K.R.M. Adipati Ario Singgih Djojo Adhiningrat, who has had three wives. Kartini married on 12 November1903. Her husband understood Kartini and Kartini's wishes to be given freedom and was supported by establishing a women's school to the east of the gate of the Rembang district office complex, or in a building that is now used as a Scout Building.

Her first and last child, Soesalit Djojoadhiningrat, was born on September 13, 1904. A few days later, September 17, 1904, Kartini died at the age of 25. Kartini was buried in Bulu Village, Bulu District, Rembang.

Thanks to Kartini's persistence, the Kartini Foundation established a Women's School in Semarang in 1912, and later in Surabaya, Yogyakarta, Malang, Madiun, Cirebon and other areas. The name of the school is "Kartini School". The Kartini Foundation was founded by the Van Deventer family, a figure of Ethical Politics.

15. biografi singkat r.a kartini dalam bahasa inggris

Kartini was born into an aristocratic Javanese family when Java was part of the Dutch colony of the Dutch East Indies. Kartini's father, Sosroningrat, became Regency Chief of Jepara. Kartini's father was originally the district chief of Mayong. Her mother, Ngasirah was the daughter of Madirono and a teacher of religion in Telukawur. She was his first wife but not the most important one. At this time, polygamy was a common practice among the nobility. She also wrote the Letters of a Javanese Princess. Colonial regulations required a Regency Chief to marry a member of the nobility. Since Ngasirah was not of sufficiently high nobility, her father married a second time to Woerjan (Moerjam), a direct descendant of the Raja of Madura. After this second marriage, Kartini's father was elevated to Regency Chief of Jepara, replacing his second wife's own father, Tjitrowikromo.

Kartini was the fifth child and second eldest daughter in a family of eleven, including half siblings. She was born into a family with a strong intellectual tradition. Her grandfather, Pangeran Ario Tjondronegoro IV, became a Regency Chief at the age of 25 while Kartini's older brother Sosrokartono was an accomplished linguist. Kartini's family allowed her to attend school until she was 12 years old. Here, among other subjects, she learnt to speak Dutch, an unusual accomplishment for Javanese women at the time. After she turned 12 she was secluded (pingit) at home, a common practice among Javanese nobility, to prepare young girls for their marriage. During seclusion girls were not allowed to leave their parents' house until they were married, at which point authority over them was transferred to their husbands. Kartini's father was more lenient than some during his daughter's seclusion, giving her such privileges as embroidery lessons and occasional appearances in public for special events.

During her seclusion, Kartini continued to educate herself on her own. Because she could speak Dutch, she acquired several Dutch pen friends. One of them, a girl by the name of Rosa Abendanon, became a close friend. Books, newspapers and European magazines fed Kartini's interest in European feminist thinking, and fostered the desire to improve the conditions of indigenous Indonesian women, who at that time had a very low social status.

Kartini's reading included the Semarang newspaper De Locomotief, edited by Pieter Brooshooft, as well as leestrommel, a set of magazines circulated by bookshops to subscribers. She also read cultural and scientific magazines as well as the Dutch women's magazine De Hollandsche Lelie, to which she began to send contributions which were published. Before she was 20 she had read Max Havelaar and Love Letters by Multatuli. She also read De Stille Kracht (The Hidden Force) by Louis Couperus, the works ofFrederik van Eeden, Augusta de Witt, the Romantic-Feminist author Goekoop de-Jong Van Eek and an anti-war novel by Berta von Suttner, Die Waffen Nieder! (Lay Down Your Arms!). All were in Dutch.

Kartini's concerns were not only in the area of the emancipation of women, but also other problems of her society. Kartini saw that the struggle for women to obtain their freedom, autonomy and legal equality was just part of a wider movement.

Kartini's parents arranged her marriage to Joyodiningrat, the Regency Chief of Rembang, who already had three wives. She was married on the 12 November 1903. This was against Kartini's wishes, but she acquiesced to appease her ailing father. Her husband understood Kartini's aims and allowed her to establish a school for women in the east porch of the Rembang Regency Office complex. Kartini's only son was born on 13 September 1904. A few days later on 17 September 1904, Kartini died at the age of 25. She was buried in Bulu Village, Rembang.

Inspired by R.A. Kartini's example, the Van Deventer family established the R.A. Kartini Foundation which built schools for women, 'Kartini's Schools' in Semarang in 1912, followed by other women's schools in Surabaya, Yogyakarta,Malang, Madiun, Cirebon and other areas.

In 1964, President Sukarno declared R.A. Kartini's birth date, 21 April, as 'Kartini Day' - an Indonesian national holiday. This decision has been criticised. It has been proposed that Kartini's Day should be celebrated in conjunction with Indonesian Mothers Day, on 22 December so that the choice of R.A. Kartini as a national heroine would not overshadow other women who, unlike R.A. Kartini, took up arms to oppose the colonisers.

In contrast, those who recognise the significance of R.A. Kartini argue that not only was she a feminist who elevated the status of women in Indonesia, she was also a nationalist figure, with new ideas, who struggled on behalf of her people and played a role in the national struggle for independence.

In addition, she also pays attention to social problems that occur according to her, a woman needs to obtain equality, freedom, autonomy and legal equality.

The letters Kartini wrote were more in the form of complaints about the condition of indigenous women. she saw an example of Javanese culture which at that time more inhibited the progress of indigenous women at that time.

she also revealed in her writing that there were many obstacles faced by indigenous women, especially in Java, in order to be more advanced.

she wrote about the suffering of women in Java as if they had to be secludd. Not free in asking for knowledge or learning, and the existence of customs that curb women's freedom.

R.A Kartini's noble ideals are that she wants to see indigenous women can study and study as they are today. New ideas about the emancipation or equalty of rights of indigenous women. It is considered as a new thing that can change people's views.

In addition, Kartini's writings also contain the meaning of Godhead, Wisdom and Beuty, humanity and also Nationalism. This is what became the specialty of RA Kartini.

Kartni also mentioned religion, for example, she questioned why men can do polygyny. And why why should the holy book be read and memorized withot the need to understand it.

Her Dtch female friend Rosa Abendanon, and Estelle "Stella" Zeehandelaar also support the thoughts expressed by R. Kartini.

History says that Kartini was allowed by her father to become a teacher in accordance with her ideals. But he was forbidden to continue her studies to study in Batavia or to the Netherlands.

Until finlly, she could not continue her dream to learn to become a teacher in Batvia. Or also study in the Netherlands. Although at that time she received a scholarship to study there.

Raden Adjeng Kartini is a Javanese noblewoman and is best known as a pioneer in the area of women's rights for native Indonesians.IN THESE GROUPS

She who, happy and self-reliant, lightly and alertly steps her way through life, full of enthusiasm and warm feelings; working not only for her own well-being and happiness, but for the greater good of humanity as a whole.”—Raden Adjeng KartiniSynopsis
Raden Adjeng Kartini was born on April 21, 1879, in Mayong, Indonesia. In 1903, she opened the first Indonesian primary school for native girls that did not discriminate based on social standing. She corresponded with Dutch colonial officials to further the cause of Javanese women's emancipation up until her death, on September 17, 1904, in Rembang Regency, Java. In 1911, her letters were published.
Early Years
Raden Adjeng Kartini was born to a noble family on April 21, 1879, in the village of Mayong, Java, Indonesia. Kartini's mother, Ngasirah, was the daughter of a religious scholar. Her father, Sosroningrat, was a Javanese aristocrat working for the Dutch colonial government. This afforded Kartini the opportunity to go to a Dutch school, at the age of 6. The school opened her eyes to Western ideals. During this time, Kartini also took sewing lessons from another regent's wife, Mrs. Marie Ovink-Soer. Ovink-Soer imparted her feminist views to Kartini, and was therefore instrumental in planting the seed for Kartini's later activism.
When Kartini reached adolescence, Javanese tradition dictated that she leave her Dutch school for the sheltered existence deemed appropriate to a young female noble.
Feminist
Struggling to adapt to isolation, Kartini wrote letters to Ovink-Soer and her Dutch schoolmates, protesting the gender inequality of Javanese traditions such as forced marriages at a young age, which denied women the freedom to pursue an education.
Ironically, in her eagerness to escape her isolation, Kartini was quick to accept a marriage proposal arranged by her father. On November 8, 1903, she wed the regent of Rembang, Raden Adipati Joyodiningrat. Joyodiningrat was 26 years older than Kartini, and already had three wives and 12 children. Kartini had recently been offered a scholarship to study abroad, and the marriage dashed her hopes of accepting it. According to Javanese tradition, at 24 she was too old to expect to marry well.
Intent on spreading her feminist message, with her new husband's approval, Kartini soon set about planning to start her own school for Javanese girls. With help from the Dutch government, in 1903 she opened the first Indonesian primary school for native girls that did not discriminate on the basis of their social status. The school was set up inside her father's home, and taught girls a progressive, Western-based curriculum. To Kartini, the ideal education for a young woman encouraged empowerment and enlightenment. She also promoted their lifelong pursuit of education. To that end, Kartini regularly corresponded with feminist Stella Zeehandelaar as well as numerous Dutch officials with the authority to further the cause of Javanese women's emancipation from oppressive laws and traditions. Her letters also expressed her Javanese nationalist sentiments.
Death and Legacy
On September 17, 1904, at the age of 25, Kartini died in the regency of Rembang, Java, of complications from giving birth to her first child. Seven years after her death, one of her correspondents, Jacques H. Abendanon, published a collection of Kartini's letters, entitled "From Darkness to Light: Thoughts About and on Behalf of the Javanese People." In Indonesia, Kartini Day is still celebrated annually on Kartini's birthday.Raden Ajeng Kartini was born on 21 April 1879 in the town of Jepara, Central Java. He is the son of a nobleman who was very obedient to the customs. After graduating from elementary school he was not allowed to continue their schooling to higher levels by the parents. He secluded while waiting to be married. Small Kartini very saddened by this, he wanted to challenge but did not dare for fear of being considered rebellious child. To get rid of her sorrow, she collects books, textbooks and other science which is then read in the garden accompanied by Simbok (aides).

First of all, let us praise to the Almighty Allah SWT, because of His Blessing we are able  to  attend  this  English  speech  contest.  Secondly,  may  peace  be  upon  the  prophet  Muhammad Saw who has guided us from the darkness into the brightness.
In this good opportunity, I would like to say many thanks to the adjudicators and MC  who have given me chance to deliver an English speech in front of you all.  My great appreciation also goes to all the teachers, students, and participants who have  come to this place.
Ladies and Gentlemen
The title of my speech is "Kartini Day".
We  all  know  every  year,  on  21 st  April,  Indonesian  people  always  celebrate  Kartini  Day. The commemoration of Kartini Day is based on the life story of RA Kartini who is  widely   regarded   as   a   national   Indonesian   heroine   in   the   women's   rights   and  emancipation.
RA Kartini was born on 21 st April, 1879 in Jepara, Central Java. Her father, Raden Mas  Sosroningrat, was the chief of Jepara Regency. At the time, Java was still a part of Dutch  Colonies. Until the late 19 th century and early 20  th century, Indonesian women did not  have  the  equal  rights  as  men  obtained.  Women  could  not  get  higher  education.  They  were  also  forbidden  to  choose  their  ways  of  life,  such  as  expressing  ideas  or  opinion  and choosing husband.
Brothers and Sisters
At the time, Javanese women could not attend school. Fortunately, because Kartini was  born  into  a  family  with  a  strong intellectual tradition,  she was then  allowed  to  attend  school until she was 12 years old. She learned much, including Dutch Language. After
she turned 12 years old she was 'secluded' at home, a common practice among Javanese  nobility,  to  prepare  young  girls  for  their  marriage.  During  seclusion,  girls  were  not  allowed  to  leave  their  parents'  house  until  they  were  married.  Kartini  continued  to  educate  herself  on  her  own.  Because  Kartini  could  speak  Dutch,  she  acquired  several  Dutch  pen  friends.  One  of them,  a  girl  by  the  name  of  Rosa  Abendanon,  became  her  very close friend. Kartini read many kinds of books, newspapers and magazines about  feminist  thinking.  They  inspired  and  supported  Kartini  to  improve  the  conditions  of  Javanese women who had a very low social status.

The letters from kartini to actually her friends, particularly rosa abendanon, were in the main concerning  her views on your social conditions prevailing at this point, significantly the condition of  native indonesian women. she protested the tendency of javanese culture to actually impose  obstacles for your own development of girls. she depicted the sufferings of javanese  women fettered by tradition, unable to actually study, secluded, and needs to be trained in order to  get involved in polygamous marriages with men they actually dont grasp.
